SSCI Prospective Members
The SSCI is a non-profit organization representing the manufacturers of new steel shipping containers.
Suppliers of materials and components to the industry serve as Associate Members of the Institute, while foreign based steel container manufacturing operations are affiliated through the SSCI's International Members.
The Institute is actively engaged in representing the industry before state and local agencies, and the U.S. Congress. Through the SSCI's Technical Projects and Government Affairs Committees, the Institute carries on a continuing dialogue with the individuals who craft the legislation and regulations that impact the manufacture, testing and use of steel shipping containers.
The SSCI has been an integral part of the process that established HM-181 (Title 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations).
The Institute is also active with international organizations, including the UN Committee of Experts on the Transport of Dangerous Goods.

Objectives
SSCI's objectives are:
To develop programs and activities aimed at increasing the industry sales of new steel drums and pails;
To help maximize profits of members' companies;
To promote the interests of the steel shipping container industry or any part or branch thereof.
To collect statistics and other information, within legal boundaries, concerning any matters connected in any way with the steel shipping container industry and to make reports and provide information based thereon to the members of the Institute and/or to the public;
To analyze industry problems of a scientific or technical nature for compliance with government regulations, effective use of steel shipping containers, and any other purpose which will benefit the products or operations of SSCI members;
To provide a forum for the exchange of information and study of problems relating to the steel shipping container industry and to contribute to the practical education of its members through seminars, lectures and workshops.
